ivana + alen
We’ve known each other since we were kids, but it took a few countries, a fashion show and a DJ set before our lives properly crossed again.
Ivana was working between fashion, design and photography. Alen came from music and later film. Somewhere along the way, those separate worlds started becoming one — first personally, then creatively.
Today we live, work and travel together. Which means we also spend an unreasonable amount of time talking about photographs, films, music, design and where we should go next.
BEFORE IVAL
Ivana studied fashion design and spent years working across fashion, photography and creative direction. Living in places like Madrid, Lisbon and Slovenia shaped both her eye and her curiosity for how people live, dress and inhabit a place.
Alen’s world was music first. Years spent around electronic music eventually led naturally into moving image, editing and film.
We came into weddings with those references already built in. Perhaps that’s why we tend to notice things beyond the obvious — what someone is wearing, the shape of a room, the light coming through a window, the music playing at dinner, or what is happening at the edge of the frame.
We’ve always been drawn to places we haven’t been before — but mostly because of the people we meet there. Different cultures, ways of living, food, music, conversations and all the little things you only understand once you spend time somewhere.
Travel keeps us curious and reminds us how differently people experience the same things. It’s probably one of the reasons we feel so at home at international weddings, where different families, languages and traditions often come together in one place.
And naturally, we usually have a camera with us.
